The 42kaiserslautern

Technologies of the Future to Experience and Help Shape

The 42kaiserslautern is an interactive meeting place where research, technology and society come together. It was initiated by the Science and Innovation Alliance Kaiserslautern e.V. (SIAK), a non-profit association in which the partners of the High-Performance Center and the cooperation partner German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence DFKI are involved and play a key role in the strategic direction. The vision: to bring science into society and create an open space in which everyone can experience, try out and help shape future technologies.

Experience, Understand, Participate: The 42 Makes the Future Tangible

42kaiserslautern offers a constantly changing program mix: an interactive exhibition that changes every six to ten months as well as free workshops, lectures and hands-on activities that cover a broad spectrum: from quantum physics to art and culture to theme days on health or nutrition, everything is included. The events are designed to bring digital and sustainable transformation topics to life.

42kaiserslautern is located in the heart of Kaiserslautern – in the former C&A building at Eisenbahnstraße 42. 1,000 m² of space is dedicated to an interactive exhibition, workshops, event areas, a café with an outdoor terrace and coworking areas. The interior of 42kaiserslautern can be flexibly adapted to changing themes and formats.

Sponsorship and Funding

SIAK (Science and Innovation Alliance Kaiserslautern e.V.) is the sole shareholder of 42kaiserslautern gGmbH, which operates 42kaiserslautern. 42kaiserslautern is supported by the two Fraunhofer Institutes, the RPTU and other partners. The 42kaiserslautern is financed 60 percent privately and 40 percent by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

Our Contribution to 42Kaiserslautern

The partners of the Leistungszentrum are actively involved in the 42kaiserslautern program. With presentations on themed days and exhibits at the changing exhibitions, we show everyone how we are helping to shape the future with our innovations. In 2025, this will include these contributions, among others:

  • The Fraunhofer ITWM's »resiLIR« exhibit focuses on strengthening mental health by promoting resilience. The platform enables a personal resilience assessment and offers targeted training. At the exhibit, visitors can test their personal resilience factors using a questionnaire. .
  • With the lecture »Bauchgefühl oder Fakt: Wenn Darm und sein Gehirn Beschwerden machen« (Gut feeling or fact: When the gut and its brain cause discomfort«) , Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences explains on a health theme day why discomfort is often more than just a gut feeling.
  • With the »Software for the Energy Transition«, the Fraunhofer ITWM is part of the model house. The »Green by IT« team contributes its software solutions to connect the various energy producers and consumers in the model house and to ensure efficient operation. Our main goal is to make fluctuating renewable energies plannable and to optimally use flexibility across all sectors.
