Offers and synergies of the common infrastructure

Over the years, various joint infrastructures and synergistic competencies have been established at the site, bringing together infrastructure offerings as a single package or operated by one research partner and shared by others.

Typical for the High Performance Center is the close connection of the infrastructure with the specific simulation and software methods. These are used to qualify joint preliminary research. In addition, the use of the infrastructure is part of our offer to industry.

RODOS / REDAR / VR Lab

With the robot-based driving simulator RODOS®, the 3D laser scanner vehicle REDAR, and the virtual reality laboratory, the Fraunhofer ITWM pilot plant offers experimental facilities for the development and qualification of modeling and simulation technologies for the virtual product development of vehicles.

Machine Learning GPU Cluster

The high-performance GPU cluster »Styx« of Fraunhofer ITWM enables the use of high-performance computing systems for interactive machine learning with the open-source multi-user software stack Carme and is available to all members of the performance center.

Material Characterization

The Leibniz-Institut für Verbundwerkstoffe IVW has high-quality facilities for materials, semi-finished products and structural analysis and cooperates closely with the Fraunhofer ITWM with regard to the digitization of material properties.

Application Center TeraTec

The TeraTec Application Center at the Fraunhofer ITWM unites all relevant techniques and systems for terahertz technology under one roof and cooperates closely with the Optical Technologies and Photonics Group at the University of Kaiserslautern-Landau.

Image Processing and Non-destructive Testing

The Fraunhofer ITWM and the Leibniz-Institut für Verbundwerkstoffe together have excellent equipment for the acquisition of high-resolution 2D and 3D images and their qualified analysis.

Product Information Office for Retirement Provision

The Fraunhofer ITWM and the Financial Mathematics Group at the University of Kaiserslautern-Landau are scientific service providers of the Product Information Office for Retirement Provision, in particular for the legally required risk-reward classification of pension products.

Process Engineering Lab

At the Laboratory of Engineering Thermodynamics of the University of Kaiserslautern-Landau, a batch distillation column in miniplant format is put into operation and equipped with online sensors. At the ITWM, a physical model of this plant will be created. Based on the data, the model will be adapted to the real operation. This allows the planning of operational tests, the identification of optimal operating conditions, and the improvement of the model by integrating machine learning methods.

Innovation Engineering in the Creative Space

Thanks to the flexible walls, the unusual seating furniture, the colorful color scheme, and much more, the Innovation Space of Fraunhofer IESE creates a creative atmosphere in which it is easier for customers to develop creative ideas than in a classic office.
