Norms and Standardization

In the competition for technologies and future markets, standards play a decisive role. In its transfer strategy, the performance center therefore pursues the goal of bringing the partners' research results to the relevant standardization bodies.

Reliable Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Systems

A particularly important field of action in standardization concerns the area of Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Systems. Fraunhofer IESE is helping to shape this area and to set quality standards with respect to reliability and, in particular, safety.

Standardized Test Methods in Metrology

New materials or material developments often require special or adapted test methods. At the same time, technical developments push boundaries, for example in metrology. Through the accompanying use of FE simulations, test methods can be better understood and thus optimized. Standardized test methods reveal weaknesses or potential for improvement after years of use, or have to be adapted to new types of materials. These are all important reasons for permanently working on standards in testing technology, since only in this way can comparable material parameters be generated and these materials be brought into use.

Staff members of the Leibniz-Institut für Verbundwerkstoffe IVW not only actively participate in national and international standardization committees, but also partly lead them.

Goals:

  • Support in the standardization process
  • Development of standardization strategies
  • Revision of existing standards
