»Digital Commercial Vehicle Technology«

The passenger car industry is currently developing very dynamically. The development to electric mobility and especially to more and more automation up to autonomous driving leads to a reorientation of the development processes at the vehicle manufacturers and suppliers.

In particular, new and flexible virtual test concepts involving vehicle-environment-human interaction are needed. To this end, new testing concepts and tools are being developed in the performance center to support the automotive industry and simplify its development processes.

 

Focus of the Transfer Center:

Under the guiding theme »Energy efficiency, reliability and operational safety«, fields have already been defined in the innovation cluster that are also in the focus of the application center. The »Digital Commercial Vehicle Technology« center is divided into three main areas:

  • »Interactive Vehicle Simulation and Virtual Vehicle Testing«
  • »Virtualized Test Concepts for Commercial Vehicles«
  • »Vehicles in the Digital Age«

»Interactive Vehicle Simulation and Virtual Vehicle Testing«

In this focus area existing technologies will be further developed in such a way that automated and autonomous passenger cars can be optimized and secured. This creates a visible and sustainable car development competence within the performance center.

»Virtualized Test Concepts for Commercial Vehicles«

The focus »Virtualized Test Concepts for Commercial Vehicles« addresses the following new challenges and forward-looking topics in the areas of highly automated operation, resource efficiency and CO² savings in commercial vehicles.

The new testing concepts are:

  • for construction, agricultural machinery and commercial vehicles in off-road operation. With the increasing degree of automation of the machines, classical test concepts such as the execution of field tests are increasingly reaching their limits.

  • for software in commercial vehicles with coupled simulations. Specifically, it concerns the coupling of hardware-in-the-loop, software-in-the-loop and operator-in-the-loop methods for system testing. The interactive simulator RODOS is also increasingly used for this purpose.

  • for trucks, trailers and commercial vehicles in onroad operation by georeferenced methods. The work focuses on the new possibilities brought about by the automation and digitisation of road traffic.

»Vehicles in the Digital Age«

From 2018 to 2022, a flexibly configurable modular system for digital demonstrators will be developed, set up and used for technology transfer to society in the »Vehicles in the Digital Age« focus.


For this project, demonstrator applications using the RODOS driving simulator is being set up for various vehicle categories, such as the GATOR by John Deere or a UNIMOG by Daimler. The transfer of the innovations developed to research and the public is a central element.
